What is "The Fibercraft Exchange"?

porchmobiles/mobliemandalasmallblues.jpgThe Fibercraft Exchange started as an idea, to call a circle of fibercrafting learners willing to learn and pass on their handcraft skills to beginners of any age.  It echoes the traditional form of how most handcrafts  were introduced to a new generation of learners.  But, more than a way to pass on hobby skills, it was conceived to feed the spark of self-driven learning that drives babies without language to try to walk, or explorers to decide to cross a mountain.  A body driven by its own curiosity is different than one  that must be continually guided to do the next thing.  The subject matters less than the will to obtain new learning, without a purpose, but content that the reach itself will have intrinsic value.

What does this have to do with yarns and threads?  A body seeking a new skill learns differently than one waiting to be taught.  My own learning has never been long-term unless it involves all of me, and when it does, it teaches me about how the world around me works better than any scientific theory can.  When there's nothing but a little yarn and time at stake, there's no telling what we can learn, each sharing knowledge they've gained in a different sphere and then weaving it, knitting it, gathering it together to make a more cohesive and far-reaching whole.

Demonstration and learning circles can be designed for your group's needs.  Email at the address below for more details.
